Taking Care Of Yourself Is The Bravest Thing You Can Do!
Who Am I…
Katy Martin
is a mom of two living children and one angel baby, who is best known for her ability to connect, create and inspire. She is an emerging Canadian Visual Artist, an Educator and a published Author.
Katy has worked at loss Mom retreats for years, gently demonstrating to other bereaved parents how they can move towards their grief, experiencing it fully, igniting their own healing.
After finding out that her near full term baby boy had unexpectedly died in utero, Katy found herself at the footsteps of a path so painful it was beyond her imagining. She began writing as a way to process emotions while navigating her way through the new mountain of grief before her. Katy shares intimate details of her son, Beau’s life and death along with how she and her husband Brodie made it through the year after Beau’s departure.
Why I Had To Write This Book!
Because I needed this book and it wasn't there.
After losing my full-term baby boy, in true Katy-style I scoured the self-help book section looking for something to aid my shattered heart and I came up empty handed.
At first though, I didn't know I was writing a book and it wasn't to create something needed in the space of bereaved parents.
At first, I just started writing as a survival technique. I journaled my loss experience and my emotions and feelings poured out of me in the most cathartic and beautiful way. If I had tried to write this book a year after Beau's departure I don't think I could have.
As I continued writing I would find quotes that lifted me over a hurdle, or pulled me through a particularly dark week. I found some surprising resources I LOVED, that in some cases really did SAVE me. Some of these resources were found in poetry books, or books about the meaning of life. I knew I needed to pass on these life-saving bits of wisdom to other people who were in the throes of their grief.
I know now that one of my big missions in this life is to show other people how to turn great loss into beauty and how to put broken pieces back together.
